What can I say? Are these spectacular or not? This plant is a Traechelium whose common name is Pandora. These were started by Dan Klettlinger (Klettlinger's Greenhouse in Mogadore) in late February with seeds I purchased from Harris Seed. He said the seed looked like fine dust and were very slow to germinate. When I picked them up in May the plants were only an inch tall. These in the photo were put in rich potting mix and peat humus in early June.
The flowerhead clusters start out black and slowly become a vibrant purple with tiny bright white dots in many of the tiny flowers. I plan to use them in bouquets paired with white hydrangea or white snapdragons and perhaps some other blue or pink flowers. The foliage is quite attractive too, starting out dark colored and becoming mor green over time.
They are not perennial in my zone (zone 5) so I plan to attempt overwintering them under flourescent lights in my basement.
